Dance in the Upper School has something for every student, from those who have never taken a dance class to dancers on a pre-professional track. Classes are offered in Ballet, Contemporary Jazz, Musical Theatre, Tap and Ballroom. They are offered on a yearly or semester basis and during the academic day, as well as after school.
The school’s dance group, The Cedar Street Dance Company, is for dedicated dance students who are dancing at an advanced level.
There are many opportunities for all dance students to participate in performances if they would like, including a Spring Dance Concert. Even though dance is within the Drama Department, students taking dance courses may choose dance as a PE credit, as well. Dancers are artists and athletes!
In the Middle School, dance is offered in Grades 7 and 8. Beginning in Grade 7, a student may choose Dance as his or her “sport.” The class is held every day from 2:10 to 3:15 p.m. Students may choose dance on a semester basis, or they may dance for the entire year. Classes are offered in Ballet, Contemporary Jazz, Musical Theatre, Tap and Improv. Throughout the year, Middle School dance students have many opportunities to perform at RCDS and in the surrounding area.
